Project Baseline Phase Fields

The table below lists the fields of the Project Baseline Phase form and provides utilization guidelines for each field.

Field Label Utilization Guideline
Baseline

The Baseline field shows the name of the project baseline that the project baseline phase is a part of. This name consists of the name of the phase which start triggered the generation of the project baseline, as well as the date on which this occurred.

Phase

The Phase field shows the project phase for which the project baseline phase was generated at the time that the project baseline was generated.

Baseline tasks

The Baseline tasks field lists the project baseline tasks that were generated for each of the unfinished tasks of the project phase when the project baseline was generated.

Schedule

The Schedule field presents the difference in calendar days between the moment when the project phase was planned to be completed at the time that the project baseline was generated and the start of the first project task that was part of the project baseline phase at the time that the project baseline was generated.

Apart from this difference in calendar days, this field also shows the start and end dates of the phase’s schedule. These dates were set when the project baseline was generated.

Budget

The Budget field presents the planned effort that, at the time that the project baseline phase was generated, was expected to be spent on the project tasks that are part of the project baseline phase. This effort is expressed both in time and the cost of this time.

Current scope

The Current scope field presents the current total of the planned effort of all the project tasks that are part of the project baseline phase. The current scope is expressed in time.

This field is displayed only if the current scope is different from the budget, i.e. when there is a scope deviation. A scope deviation occurs when:

  • the planned effort of a project task that is part of the project baseline phase is modified,
  • a new project task is added to the project phase,
  • a project task that is part of the project baseline phase is moved to another project phase, or
  • a project task that is part of the project baseline phase is set to the status ‘Failed’ or ‘Canceled’.
Actual effort

The Actual effort field presents the total time spent of all the time entries that are linked to the project tasks that are part of the project baseline phase. This effort is expressed both in time and the cost of this time.

Remaining effort

The Remaining effort field presents the total remaining effort of all the project tasks that are part of the project baseline phase.

Earned value

The Earned value field presents the total earned value of all the project baseline tasks that were part of the project baseline phase when it was generated. The earned value is expressed as a percentage of the budgeted effort, as well as in time and the cost of this time.

Schedule deviation

The Schedule deviation field presents the difference in calendar days between the moment when the project phase was planned to be completed at the time that the project baseline was generated and the moment when the last project task that is part of the project baseline phase is currently expected to be finished. The schedule deviation is expressed in a number of calendar days.

Scope deviation

The Scope deviation field presents the difference between the current scope and the budget of the project baseline phase. The scope deviation is expressed as a percentage of the budgeted effort, as well as in time.

Effort deviation

The Effort deviation field presents the difference between the actual effort and the earned effort (i.e. the earned value expressed as time spent) of the project baseline phase. The effort deviation is expressed as a percentage of the earned effort, as well as in time.

Cost deviation

The Cost deviation field presents the difference between the cost of the actual effort and the earned cost (i.e. the earned value expressed as the cost of the earned value expressed as time spent) of the project baseline phase. The cost deviation is expressed as a percentage of the earned cost, as well as in the cost that the effort deviation represents.
